UEFA fine Bayern Munich 116,000 euros and order partial Allianz Arena closure

Bayern Munich have received the heaviest punishment in UEFA’s latest round of disciplinary decisions, with the German giants fined a total of 116,000 euros and handed a partial stadium closure for their next UEFA Champions League home fixture.

The sanctions were confirmed on Wednesday after Bayern were charged for blocking public passageways and setting off fireworks during their recent Champions League match against Sporting earlier this month.

UEFA has now activated a previously suspended punishment, which means sections 111 to 114 of the Allianz Arena will be closed for Bayern’s next European home match against Union Saint Gilloise on January 21.

In addition, Bayern were hit with another partial stadium closure involving the entire South Tribune for a future game. However, this particular sanction has been suspended and placed under a two year probation period.

Further penalties were imposed following Bayern’s away defeat to Arsenal last month. UEFA fined the club 40,000 euros for crowd disturbances and the throwing of objects, while an additional 30,000 euros was issued for displaying messages deemed inappropriate for a sporting event.

Elsewhere, UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body also enforced a suspended sanction against Eintracht Frankfurt. The German club has been banned from selling tickets to away supporters for their next match.

Frankfurt were charged after their fans threw objects, lit fireworks, and caused damage during their 2-1 defeat to Barcelona at the Camp Nou last week. They are scheduled to face Qarabag away in their next fixture.

UEFA also fined Frankfurt a total of 38,000 euros and ordered the club to contact Barcelona within 30 days to settle the cost of damages caused by supporters, particularly in the away section toilets.

Sporting were also punished with a 40,000 euros fine and an away ticket ban, while Lille received a 10,000 euros fine alongside a suspended ticket ban following fireworks incidents in their Europa League match against Young Boys.

Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv were fined 20,000 euros for racist or discriminatory behaviour by their supporters during their Europa League game against VfB Stuttgart.
