Curtis Jones says Salah apologised to Liverpool squad after interview remarks

Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones has revealed that Mohamed Salah apologised to his teammates following the strong comments he made in a recent interview.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Jones explained that the Egyptian forward addressed the squad directly to clarify his remarks. According to him, Salah made it clear that his comments did not cause any division in the dressing room and that the team remains united.

Jones said Salah took responsibility and told the players that if his words affected anyone or made them feel uncomfortable, he was sorry. He added that the apology reflected the kind of person Salah is and stressed that the forward is someone who speaks his mind.

Salah had sparked controversy after Liverpool’s Premier League draw with Leeds United on December 6, when he criticised the club and head coach Arne Slot. The 33 year old suggested he had been treated as a scapegoat for the team’s slow start to the season and hinted that his future at Anfield could be uncertain.

Liverpool, who won the league last season, are currently seventh in the Premier League table with 26 points, sitting ten points behind leaders Arsenal.

Earlier on Friday, Slot played down the situation and insisted there were no unresolved issues with Salah. The winger had been left out of the squad for Liverpool’s 1-0 Champions League win away to Inter Milan on December 9.

Salah later returned to action from the bench and set up a goal in Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion before departing to join up with his national team for the Africa Cup of Nations.
