Morocco edge Jordan after extra time to lift Arab Cup

Morocco were crowned Arab Cup champions after a dramatic 3–2 victory over Jordan that was decided in extra time, with Abderrazzaq Hamed Allah scoring twice to seal the title following a moment of brilliance from Oussama Tannane.

The North Africans made a dream start, taking the lead just four minutes into the match. Tannane stunned everyone inside the stadium with an audacious strike from the centre circle, catching Jordan goalkeeper Yazeed Abulaila well off his line.

Jordan, who are preparing for their first ever World Cup appearance in 2026, responded strongly after the break. Ali Olwan brought them level in the 48th minute with a well placed header before completing his brace from the penalty spot in the 68th minute to put Jordan ahead.

With defeat looming, Morocco found a lifeline late in normal time. Hamed Allah struck three minutes from the end to make it 2–2 and force the match into extra time. The striker then proved decisive again, finishing from close range to complete the comeback and secure the trophy.

The victory marked another major achievement for Morocco, even though several Europe based players were absent as the team prepares for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.

Morocco have enjoyed a remarkable run of success in recent years. They became the first African and Arab nation to reach the semi finals of a World Cup when they achieved the feat in Qatar three years ago, knocking out Spain and Portugal before losing to France.

Success has also come at youth level. Morocco were crowned Under 20 world champions in October after a 2–0 final win over Argentina, becoming the first Arab nation to claim the title. Their under 17 team reached the World Cup quarter finals, while the under 23 side won the Africa Cup of Nations and qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympics, where they went on to win bronze.

Morocco will host the next Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled to take place from December 21 to January 18.
